An introduction to New Model Medicine

At New Model Medicine, our focus is on holistic health and, to achieve it, we spend time with patients to develop a deep understanding of both their medical and emotional symptoms. We believe that achieving optimal health is a long-term partnership between you and your doctor and we use a combination of nutrition, mindset and medication to achieve your goals. We take stock of current diet and lifestyle habits and agree on a plan that includes food and self-care interventions.

During your Initial consultation we go through your full medical history and take stock of all the physical and emotional symptoms that you may have as well as lifestyle factors – nutrition, exercise, sleep and relaxation.

Personalised medicine often recognises that one-size fits all approach does not work for everyone and I think it is important to have the knowledge to make our own decisions when it comes to our own health. We aim to optimise your hormone levels across the board and meet you where you are to begin implementing sustainable lifestyle changes.

NMM Mission - “More than HRT”

New Model Medicine (NMM) is a personalised medicine clinic focusing on women’s health. Our mission is for every woman to feel seen, heard and supported in her quest to better health. We aim to offer a comprehensive consultation, comprising a personalised food plan, a self-care plan and personalised hormone therapy alongside resources to support you along the journey.

My own menopause transition wasn’t anything like ‘the natural transition to cessation of periods and getting pregnant naturally’. The other reason is that I believe menopause is not just a transition but also a call for transformation (I admit I did once believe – whilst in the thick of it- that it is perhaps some undiscovered yet self-destruct button that is triggered once one’s reproductive abilities were no longer needed)

We women have so much to give to families and society; there is much wisdom and strength that needs to be passed on. It pains me to see how we can become such smaller versions of ourselves after menopause; many women leave their workplace and suicide rates peak in peri-menopausal women.

Whilst our knowledge and advances in menopause care and the availability of human-like hormones have advanced so much recently, I believe women deserve more than HRT (whether it is the personalised bio-identical version or the available licensed body-identical estradiol and progesterone).

In functional medicine, there is a saying (credit to dr Shilpa Saxena- IFM tutor)- we all want goodness in our lives. Good- NESS is made up by Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep, Stress management. At times, to get to goodness, we may need to sort out our MESS (Mental, Emotional, Spiritual stuff). Occasionally, menopause can be more challenging and often women are trying out a number of modalities and practitioners before finding the help they need.

As women, we deserve to understand how our bodies work, how burn out happens, what to do to prevent it and how to get back from it; what the impact of stress is on our hormones, how are the hormones metabolised/ eliminated and ways to support this so treatment has maximum benefit and minimum risk; how to best optimise weight and cardio-metabolic health; how to gain our power back

We deserve to feel seen, heard and understood in each and every medical encounter.

And, where necessary to have access to personalised information on food as medicine, resources on stress management and tap into qualified and empathic life or health coaches to support us on the journey if needed. To take the guess work out of it and work with a team that can meet you where you are and map your journey together.

Because, if anything, menopause is the time when it should finally be all about you.
